Please note: There are quotas on all shellfish, fish and crustaceans taken from Front Beach and Mercury Bay. In most cases, beaches are signposted with details. Some areas, such as Hahei Marine Reserve, are off limits. If in doubt, ask a local resident.

Shakespeare Cliff

Lonely Bay from Shakespeare

This long white sandy beach is bounded on the northern end by a stream, on the southern end by the Purangi estuary. Many shellfish.

Hot Water Beach
Hot mineral springs rise to the surface and mingle with cold sea water to provide your very own hot pool in the sand. Bring a spade. Before you go, check that the tide is right.

Mercury Bay is an elemental place, with an unspoiled and raw natural beauty. Ancient bush-clad volcanic vents point to a once fiery landscape.
