 It's always a pleasure to see stately ocean-going and coast-hopping yachts glide by or call in to Front Beach and the Flaxmill Bay anchorage. There are many peaceful, secluded bays and beaches to explore at Mercury Bay. Wind conditions can vary from gentle breeze to full-blown gale, when wind-surfers can be seen crossing the bay in just a few minutes, giving even some power boats a run for their money. As anywhere near the ocean, conditions can change quickly so if you're new to sailing, be prepared and water-wise.
 When sailing at Front Beach, be aware of two reefs on the north-eastern end of the beach. These are exposed to varying degrees at low tide.
