:: The land in this region is steeped in history such as early goldmining
and logging of Kauri (a superb NZ native tree). Before that, large settlements
of Maori and many Pa (villages)
occupied the hills around Whitianga, close to abundant shellfish beds and
fishing grounds in close proximity.
Today a strong
anti-mining lobby exists to prevent the kind of mining devastation perpetrated
elsewhere.
:: Two fridges and a freezer chest are available at the
Whitianga holiday home, for your perishables and frozen items. Keep your
bait fresh and ready
to go.
:: If you're into fishing, bring some gear. Bait and fishing tackle
is available at the Ferry Landing store and Whitianga township.

sizes. Popular fishing spot.
