Scenic Attractions - Cooks Beach: View from Shakespeare Cliff, not far from the Whitianga self-catering holiday home by the sea.
Cooks Beach stretches in a long white-sand crescent from Shakespeare Cliff and Lonely Bay at its northern end, to the Purangi tidal estuary and Purangi River at the southern end of the beach.
The beach slopes gently into the sea, making it ideal for exploring, swimming, shellfish gathering and fishing for certain species. Boats can be launched in the Purangi estuary. Good beach access.
There is a large cave in the cliffs at the northern end of Cooks Beach that is accessible by boat.
