the many delicacies found around Mercury Bay's coastline, headlands and islands.
Make sure you observe marine reserve areas
and species quotas. Front Beach is not a marine reserve - normal quotas apply. Several reefs are exposed at low tide, providing fresh mussels for those
who enjoy them.
Access & Transport: Travelling to the Front Beach, Whitianga
self-catering holiday home by the beach.
The Whitianga beach-front rental home is located at Ferry Landing, Whitianga, Coromandel Peninsula - North Island, New Zealand (see map). Easy, convenient access via sealed highways from all major North Island's centres.
About 2 to 3 hours by car from Auckland City. About 35 to 45 minutes by air from Auckland International airport. Whitianga's airport is accessible to small aircraft from Auckland and other main and local centres. A bus service to Whitianga is available from all main centres (via Thames Township).

Right: Ferry Landing's famous cross-harbour pedestrian ferry, leaving on one of its regular daily crossings to Whitianga coastal township and back.
From the holiday home, Whitianga township can be accessed in minutes via a regular cross-harbour pedestrian ferry and by road - a trip of about 35 minutes each way.
It is a fact that locations such as Front Beach Whitianga - where there is an abundance of natural energy in the form of ocean waves, rivers and streams - are extremely beneficial healing environments. Even a few days here can help you melt stress. There is no pollution (we like to keep it that way). The ocean, air and water here are clean. Cloudless night skies are superbly clear...the moonrise on a clear evening is something to behold.
This region was once extremely volcanic (about 6 to 8 million years ago). Magma and incandescent ash flows from the Tairua volcanic caldera were responsible for much of the spectacularly sculpted ash-cliffs, the ancient plugs of extinct vocanos and breathtaking coastline found in this area.
Front Beach's sand varies from coarse shell to a finely sea-milled shell/silica sand. Wonderful to walk on barefoot, great for sand-castles. There are many nooks and crannies to explore.
Located several beaches south of the Front Beach holiday home is Hot Water Beach. Here you can dig a hole in the sand near the tideline that will fill with hot mineral water seeping up through the sand and hopefully just enough cold sea water from nearby waves to provide you with a blissfully relaxing warm mineral bath.
